Bouonne Année et salutâtions tout l’monde. Comme i’ fait fraid d’tchian!

The next meetings will be held tomorrow, Wed. 1st Févri in the A. Mourant Room at the SJ Offices at 8.00pm and on Wed. 7th March at the same time and place when we will continue with our project and try to improve our language skills….with some exercises as in temps pâssé.

Please accept my apologies for the lack of Fieillets for some months; our news was not that inspiring or interesting but we will try to change that. We held our first meeting of 2012 at the beginning of January and the present Officers have agreed to continue at their posts.

Meanwhile, we have continued our work on the classifying and cataloguing of the Jersey literature that we were kindly donated by Laurie Heulin last year. The examples have been filed in preservative folders and some of them will be re-typed to prepare them for publication.

In the summer, we participated in La Fête Normande when Jersey played host to our ‘compatriots’ from Normandy and Guernsey at the Parish Hall in St. Helier, to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of St. Clair sur Epte in 911, between Charles the Simple and the Vikings, which saw the birth of Normandy and the beginning of the Norman language and its variations ….such as Jèrriais.

In November, we succeeded in gaining a Gold Certificate at Les Sethées Jèrriaises for our recitation of Man Toppeur, a nostalgic poem comparing the life of a top hat with the ages of man…the owner!

Later, we practiced singing carols and presented our efforts with pupils at La Fête d’Noué in St. Helier….in the rain, followed by a happy party time indoors. The Festival of Nine lessons and Carols in the Sèrvice Annuel d’l’ Assembliée d’Jèrriais was held again very successfully in St. Andrew’s Church with a supper afterwards.

Further information about various literary activities will follow in the next Fieillets.
